Petite women over 60: These are three cotton midi dresses that actually fit my 5'0" petite body with absolutely no tailoring required. These dresses not only fit, these dresses also portray a vibe of elegance and grace, something every woman hopes that can depict over the age of 60. The struggle is real for petite women to find a midi or maxi dress that actually fits and you are not smothering in extra fabric. Enjoy wearing one of these great midi dresses at your next summer event. None of these dresses required tailoring, so at 5'0", all were treasures to find for an XS petite woman over 60!
Dress #1 Ann Taylor Petite Midi Baby blue and white vertical striped dress
The Vibe: Sophisticated, Elevated, and Elegant
The Ann Taylor dress with the matching fabric belt is a great choice of midi dresses. With the halter cut arm holes, fitted bodice, and perfect length, you will feel elegant in any group or other social setting when wearing this dress. The halter cut armholes draw the eye up and away from any crepey skin or extra fat you may have on the upper arms. The fitted bodice with the same fabric belt along with the thin vertical stripes give the dress a streamlined, elongating overall appearance. There is just enough drape in the skirt for the dress to move with your body gracefully. I would choose this dress for coastal elegance! It has Coastal Grandmother written all over it!
This dress can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the shoes, jacket/cardigan. purse, or jewelry you choose to wear with it. Keep accessories small and proportionate to your petite body!
Casual Wear
Without a cardigan and paired with sandals or white sneakers and a cross body bag, this dress will suffice for an outdoor barbecue or hosting your family at home. You can even add a light linen blouse (worn unbuttoned with the sleeves rolled up) for sightseeing or browsing through shops.
Elevated Wear
Pair this dress with a navy or yellow cardigan or light crop jacket that ends right at your waist, gold sandals or heels, and you are all set for indoor events from doctor appointments to visits to museums. If you want to dress it up even further, you can add a colorful scarf, statement earrings, wedge heels, or a small purse.
Dress #2 Amazon Halter Cut Sleeves Midi Dress
Vibe: Elevated, Modern, & Edgy
Depending on how you wear this dress it can be elevated and sophisticated or dressed down to be relaxed and edgy. The dress is fitted at the waist and does not come with a belt. I added a black leather belt for a more fitted and elongated appearance. I prefer belts, so I would wear a belt with it for casual or dressy attire.
Casual Wear
Throw this dress on with a pair of sandals, cross body bag, and you are all set to browse around shops and have lunch in a casual restaurant. You could even add a denim jacket and some chunky boots in the fall for a boho casual vibe!
Elevated Wear
Pair this dress with lovely jeweled earrings, heels, crop jacket or cardigan and a small purse. You could even use a skinny belt with jewels instead of a plain leather belt. You will be all set for dining out, attending church, or an evening event.

Dress #3 The Dylan Dress by Abercrombie & Fitch
The Vibe: Elevated Casual
The Dylan dress is simply amazing! This curve hugging dress definitely shows shape with absolutely no tailoring needed. The smocked back and dipped waist with just the right amount of drape in the fabric moves gracefully in the wind. The length hits just a few inches above the ankle and is the longest of the three dresses. This dress has a scoop neckline which is great for cups A-C. This dress comes in a model called, "Curve" for cups D-F and has the same fit as the regular Dylan dress, which I should have purchased had I known! Anyhow, it is very flattering, but can be a bit revealing, so I wore a cardigan tied in the front most of the time! I'm looking forward to purchasing the Curve Dress for Fall.
Very Casual
This dress can be worn very casually with sandals or white sneakers for a cook out, outdoor party, or browsing around your favorite shops. Because of the vertical blue stripes, I like to pair it with a straw purse for a coastal vibe.
Elevated
Add a cardigan and heels, you have a dressier version that would serve for an outdoor casual wedding guest dress, bridal shower, or dinner out by the water.
All of these dresses are great summer dresses for XS petite women. They fit very short petite women since I am only 5'0". What an amazing find to obtain three flattering midi-maxi length dresses that require absolutely no tailoring. All three of these dresses portray the vibe of southern elegance and grace!
The components of midi dresses that I look for as an xs petite woman over 60 are sleeve length: sleeveless, halter cut, elbow length, or long sleeve to decrease the appearance of crepey upper arms, mid-calf to a few inches above ankle hemline to show ankles for elongation of petite body, fitted waist preferably with a same fabric belt to accentuate the waistline or very defined cut in the waist, and exposure of the neck through a v-neck or deep scoop neck to further elongate an XS petite body.
This is my first real experience with midi dresses. In the past, I could never find one that was a proportionate all over fit for my XS petite body, but finding these three great midi dresses that fit perfectly has me interested in buying more midi dresses. After researching petite midi dresses with reviews by petite women that indicate the dresses really do fit petite women, I have composed a summary of the reviews and list of the petite midi dresses that proportionately fit petite women over the age of 60. I am looking forward to personally wearing trying these dresses soon! Please note these suggestions are based solely on reviews as I have not had the opportunity to try them on yet.
Since it is mid July, I am looking at dresses that I can wear now and transition into Fall with layers.
Boden (2 Petite based on size chart)
Reviewers around the 5'0" height report petite sizes hit right a mid-calf and the sleeves, waistline, and bodices are proportioned for petite women. Many prefer the wrap midi dresses because they are easier to adjust to any gaping in the top or armholes. The 100% cotton are favorites, with the jersey fabric being highly rated as well.
Here is a list of highly rated petite dresses if you would like to try one, also!
Boden Sarah Cotton Petite Midi Dress ( I love the Sarah dress because it is 100% cotton, comes in a beautiful rich chestnut color, perfect for Fall and has fabulous stitching on it!). I would wear gold Michael Kors Thong Sandals 1" heels or gold Michael Kors Val Wedge Sandals with a tan leather cross body bag or shoulder purse.
Boden Belinda Linen Petite Midi Dress. ( I love the Belinda dress because it is a quality linen shirt dress, my name is Belinda, and it comes in a beautiful green!). I would wear this beautiful dress with a small tan cross body bag or shoulder purse and Amazon Michael Kors Val Wedge Sandals in tan to elongate my petite body. I would transition this dress to Fall with a crop denim jacket and tan loafers.
Boden Catherine Linen Petite Midi Dress ( I love the Catherine dress because of the quality linen fabric, sleeveless style, easy to layer for Fall, and comes in a beautiful color of Navy.). I would pair this dress with tan Michael Kors Val Wedge Sandals and a tan cross body bag or purse.
Ann Taylor (2 Petite based on other purchases)
Petite Belted Flare Midi Dress- I love this dress because of the beautiful color, granita (a reddish pink rose color) , buttons all of the way down the front, v-neck, same fabric belt, and cut of the skirt with just enough extra fabric for movement. I wold pair this dress with gold sandals or wedges. For Fall transition, I would add a denim jacket and loafers.
Abercrombie & Fitch (XS Petite)
Dylan Curve 100% cotton Bra-free Dress- I love this dress because the 'curve' dress is similar to the regular Dylan dress except the Curve dress offers a bust size that accommodates bra sizes D-F. This dress is amazing with the scoop neckline, dipped waist with flared skirt with just enough extra fabric for movement as you walk. The dipped waist accentuates the waistline nicely. For the remaining summer and transition into Fall, I would choose a Red, cream with multicolor flowers, yellow, or olive. This dress would look great with Amazon Michael Kors thong sandals or Amazon Michael Kors wedges. The Kenneth Cole Nude wedges with muted flowers would look great with any of the solid colors. Transitioning into Fall, I would add a denim jacket and loafers if it is too cool for sandals.
Sydney 100% cotton Smocked Dipped-Waist Petite Maxi -I love this dress for the vertical orange floral print that would be beautiful for late summer and transitioning into Fall. I would pair this dress with a tan leather crossbody or shoulder purse, gold or tans sandals, or wedge sandals during the summer and tan suede heeled loafers with a denim jacket in Fall.
Talbots (2P)
Cinched Waist Poplin Dress I love this shirt dress because it comes in a gorgeous Red Pop color for summer and would transition well into Fall with a denim jacket. I would wear neutral sandals, slides, or heels with this dress. This dress is fitted at the waist to accentuate the waistline, has a nice v-neck, and has buttons down the front to elongate the overall appearance.
No matter which dress you choose, keep your accessories small and in proportion to your petite body. In the area of jewelry, choose tiny hoops with crystals, diamond posts, or very small dangling earrings and/or a small pendent necklace. Shoes should expose the feet as much as possible to complete the elongating appearance. Gold or nude sandals are an excellent choice. Thong sandals or thong wedges work really well with all of these dress! If you want to make it very casual, you could even wear a slender white sneaker with any of them. Keep purses or crossbody bags very small. Personally, I prefer a small shoulder purse with these dresses.
Drop a line below and let me know which dress you would choose? Hopefully, I have saved you some time in shopping for an XS petite midi-maxi dress that you will enjoy soon!
I hope you enjoyed viewing the three favorite midi-maxi dresses! Which one would you choose? Which dress would you enjoy during late summer and transitioning into Fall?
