Styled By Grace, Framed By Fall: Part 1
Early Fall is a great time to take a vacation because the weather is beginning to cool off just enough to be comfortable for outdoor activities like hiking, biking, or just exploring the great outdoors without the exhausting heat of summer! Come along and explore the northeast in the Fall with us as we share faith and gratitude while learning some styling tips for petite women over 60.
My husband, Doug, and I, are currently on a trip to the northeast from Georgia in our RV and we are enjoying the cooler temperatures. We hope you will follow along as we take a grateful journey from Georgia to New York in this first phase of our adventure as we travel in our RV.
With temperatures in the high 80's as we entered Virginia, it was still quite warm, so shorts were still quite comfortable and appropriate for fall when I added a few fall accessories.
This shorts outfit featuring a long sleeve linen blouse with high waist linen blend shorts is a great Fall outfit for women experiencing Fall in the south, but still want to feel stylish. Just add a colorful silk scarf, shoes, and accessories that are proportionate to your XS petite body and you will look put together and stay cool and comfortable. I enjoyed wearing this outfit while walking my little dog, Jack, while staying at an RV park in Max Meadows, Va.
Just switch out your top and shoes and you are all ready to hit the trails for a great bike ride along the river. Bonus, you will still look polished enough to stop for lunch along the way knowing your linen shorts with a 5" inseam says, 'chic coastal grandma' is enjoying being active!
The great thing about transitioning from summer to early fall is the ease in wearing the same fabrics and just adding a cardigan or crop denim jacket as the temperature drops. Just note that when you add layers, keep the layers proportionate to your body. For a flattering fit, choose layers (jacket or cardigan) that accentuate your waistline, (18"-19") are great lengths for a petite body.
This classic Black midi dress fits the bill for dressy occasions to a casual stroll in the gardens when you add the right accessories as I did while touring Hershey Gardens in Hershey, Pa.
Just add a denim crop jacket for cooler evenings. You can even switch your shoes for booties when it is too cold for sandals or loafers.
Don't put away your linen too quickly. That white linen blouse that you wore in the Spring is a great transition piece from late summer to early fall, especially when you add a beautiful silk scarf with some fall colors. Don't forget those crucial biking accessories! The Sena Communication Helmets allow my husband and I to talk to each other and warn each other about cars, other bikers, etc. Just be careful if you are one to talk to yourself like I am because he will hear that too! It works through an app on your phone that you can secure to your bike with a phone holder. Your pup will enjoy riding in the detachable bike basket. It comes with a strap to secure your dog, but we always add another strap and secure him directly to the bike to his harness.

Later that evening, as the temperatures drop, enjoy some fall denim with your bright and bold linen blouse or a chic lightweight sweater paired with your favorite silk scarf as you explore nearby Ithaca, NY.
As we drove farther north to the 1000 Islands area of Alexandria Bay and Clayton, NY, we were just a hop, skip, and a jump from the Canadian border. The temperatures were in the 60's on a mid-September day. We enjoyed dining outdoors for lunch, exploring the waterfront shops around Clayton and touring the Historical Boat Museum.
We enjoyed touring the Antique Boat Museum at Clayton, NY, where it was obvious this town was the land of money at the turn of the century with all of the amazing yachts and speedboats.
We arrived at Lake George, NY in mid-September for the Adirondack Balloon Festival. The temperatures ranged from the high 40's to low 70's, so the weather was gorgeous and compared to the temperatures in the deep south, there was a chill in the Air that was perfect for biking!
Later that afternoon we explored Fort Ticonderoga, 2000 acres of military history along Lake Champlain between the Adirondacks and Vermont, where we experienced real time revolution with reenactments of 250 years ago during 1776. This means if you visit this time next year, you will experience the British invasion instead of the Battle with the Mohawks. This was an unexpected surprise and we absolutely enjoyed visiting the fort and gardens. We learned so much about the history described by the volunteers who participated in the reenactments. They knew all of the little details like how many soldiers did not have shoes and so they took the shoes off the weaker soldiers and gave them to the strong soldiers that could walk out on the frozen river to search for the enemy. Also, another fact I did not know is that they actually allowed some of the wives to live at the fort with their husbands, but they were required to work; most of them did laundry and were paid to work. If you ever have the opportunity to attend one of their real time revolution events, you will not want to miss it!
The absolute best part of traveling is meeting interesting people along the way. They say the south is known for their hospitality, but we have met some very kind and interesting people on our first phase of this northeast journey. I choose to believe people are genuinely good. Of course, our dog, Jack is like a rock star and he makes meeting people very easy! Hence, the bow he is wearing was given to him by one of our neighbor campers in Virginia.
