What I Pack For A Summer Vacation On St. Simons Island, Ga.

Vacations spent at St. Simons Island, Ga. are a treasure. Having lived on St. Simons Island for over 20+ years, I always enjoy visiting the island, now that I have moved away. Summers are hot on Saint Simons Island, but the cool ocean breezes and the shade from the massive oak trees provide opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities on most days. Packing for a vacation on the island, especially during the summer should include light fabrics with pops of color to match the vibe of the island lifestyle. Plan for some cool mornings and evenings even during the summer since the temperature can fluctuate from 15- 25 degrees on some days. In addition, pop-up showers in the afternoon occur often, so you will want to pack a light rain jacket and/or umbrella.
Beach days turn into beach evenings on St. Simons Island, so comfortable swimsuits and coverups should be the first items on your list. You will see people running errands to and from the beach dressed in a nice cover up and sandals, so you will want to make certain you have an appropriate coverup to get you through those errands in between your vacation rental and the beach. Enjoy relaxing on the beautiful beaches where you can often spot dolphins jumping in the water out in the distance. The coastal breezes may keep you cool, so bring plenty of sunscreen because even if you don't feel hot, the sun is very strong and you will be glad you have the sunscreen protection.
Traveling clothes are essential while you are traveling to St. Simons Island. You can also enjoy these wrinkle free travel clothes while you are visiting the island. St. Simons Island, Ga. is home for many beautiful churches, these churches are historical and amazing to visit to for their worship services and history.
Comfortable clothing will be appreciated for exploring the island. The vibe is island casual: We are talking southern, polished, resort casual shorts, breezy dresses, and linen sets for shopping and exploring the island.
Check out the St. Simons Island Pier Village in your favorite summer dress. Marvel at the amazing oaks that are scattered throughout the island including the pier village area. Explore the shops, dine at one of the many restaurants, and don't forget the sweet shop that has so many different flavors of ice cream!
Days are spent exploring the island by bike or walking, so I pack clothing that is thin and repels moisture. Athletic wear and very casual wear (T-shirts and shorts ) are always a good option for biking, jogging, boating/sailing, and exploring the island.
If you enjoy biking, I highly recommend wearing a helmet and keep an eye out on cars pulling out from parking lots, condos, etc as the sidewalks cross all of these and bikers and joggers are responsible for crossing driveways and roads safely even on sidewalks (Read Glynn County Bike Ordinance). My husband, Doug, and I enjoy wearing Amazon communication helmets, so we can let each other know about oncoming traffic on the sidewalks and/or cars crossing the sidewalk.
You will enjoy a 100% cotton cool, breezy dress for dining out at one of the fine restaurants on St. Simons Island or strolling around the village.
Have fun with color and crisp, white outfits for enjoying island life on this little island on the coast of south Georgia; tropical attire is also appropriate on St. Simons Island, Ga.
If you have the opportunity to visit Jekyll Island, Ga which is the next island over from St. Simons Island, Ga. in the evening or venture out for a casual evening on St. Simons Island, Ga, you will appreciate wearing a pair of crisp white jeans and a colorful popover if you happen to be there on an occasional cool summer evening.
Relax at your rental in a casual dress with your favorite colorful popover for crisp mornings or evenings.
